On a Bank Holiday weekend where RSA member syndicates are again making headlines we’re delighted to shine the spotlight on some of the racecourses and racecourse staff that have gone above and beyond to ensure syndicates and racing clubs have been welcome:

Members of the Racehorse Syndicates Association (RSA) have voted to award six courses with an award for excellence when dealing with syndicates and racing clubs with plaques to be sent to those courses this May.

Further awards were given to individual racecourse staff who, it was judged, had gone above and beyond in looking after syndicates and clubs on race day.

2022 is the first year such awards have been granted and these awards will now become an annual occurrence.

RSA members, who represent around 8,000 syndicate owners, were invited to provide feedback on their racecourse ownership experience. This feedback provided the basis for the Awards.

Six racecourses have won the RSA Award for recognition of providing an outstanding ownership experience for shared-ownership groups. They are:

  • Ascot
  • Fontwell
  • Newmarket
  • Southwell
  • Uttoxeter
  • York

The following were also awarded “Outstanding Owners Liaison Team”

  • Beverley Frith – Kempton Park
  • Carly Sage – Aintree
  • Diana Wilder – Leicester

All those awarded should flexibility towards shared-ownership groups and provided an exceptional ownership experience for RSA members over the past 12 months.

RSA Chairman Dan Abraham of Foxtrot Racing said:

“The Racehorse Syndicates Association are delighted to recognise those courses who have shown excellence in liaising with shared-ownership groups, including flexibility around badges, meals and paddock access. With syndication being the only form of ownership which is growing, the role of racecourses in provided an outstanding ownership experience to shared- ownership groups is vitally important to our sport.”

Mark Clayton, Executive Director of Southwell Racecourse said:

“We are delighted to receive this recognition from members of the Racehorse Syndicates Association. We understand the importance of looking after shared-ownership groups as well as sole owners. We hope every owner attending Southwell has a great experience and we are delighted that our approach is being recognised and appreciated by members of RSA”.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • The Racehorse Syndicates Association (RSA) represents the interests of professional racehorse syndicates and clubs. Any professional syndicator or trainer who operates syndicates is invited to join.
  • The RSA has over 80 professional members including some of the biggest names in British racing, but also welcomes smaller syndicators who may have only one or two horses. Details of members can be found here: https://www.racehorsesyndicates.org/join-a-syndicate/
  • RSA Members have had significant success at some of the biggest meetings in the UK and abroad including two winners at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival (mares Marie’s Rock, Middleham Park Racing & Love Envoi, Noel Fehily Syndicates), but also at Aintree, Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, The Ebor Meeting and many others.
  • The RSA is in favour of the recent updates to syndicate regulation, members are required to conform to both the letter and spirit of the regulations as a condition of membership. The RSA calls for effective enforcement of these rules by the regulator, the BHA. The RSA wishes to see good practice across the sport, not just from its’ members.
  • Much of racehorse ownership is in decline with owner numbers dwindling in recent years – however syndication has grown in this time. The RSA believes that co-owned horses are therefore a vital component of the future of British Horseracing.
