The second annual RSA Golf Day was played at Staverton Hotel and Golf Club near Daventry on Monday 5th June 2023.

A late venue switch was required following a booking issue at the original venue, but this was very smoothly handled by Dan Abraham, the RSA Chair and event organiser who ensured that the eight competing teams all had a really enjoyable day of golf and socialising.

After bacon rolls and coffee all round the eight teams took to the fairways in teams of four with the best two scores on each hole counting for the team total.  Last year’s winner’s BG Racing we first to tee off and were joined on the course by Martin Keighley Racing Club, Chasing The Dream, three teams from Foxtrot Racing, Fakenham Racing Club and BDR Syndicates.

The scoring ended up with everyone very close except for the winners and the last place team who both had some margin between them and the rest.  The last placed team was one of the Foxtrot groups and they had a very valid excuse as having only three players meant that they faced an impossible task to keep up with the others and they actually returned a very creditable score.

The next five teams all finished within two points of each other with BG Racing putting up a valiant defence of the title to lead that pack in third place overall.  They were trumped by one of the Foxtrot Racing teams who recorded an excellent score, but it was not enough to get close to Chasing The Dream who stormed to victory by a wide margin.

Chasing The Dream were led by Dibble Clark who was a member of the winning team in 2022 as a BG Racing shareholder, but he has since formed his own syndicate and joined the RSA and in 2023 he was joined by his son Hugh and Cam Lewis and Tom Dold, who are partners in a cyber-security business 3CT Security in Malvern, Worcestershire.  The team definitely was the youngest in average and whether that tipped the balance in their favour on the fairly hilly course is a question that some very tired golfers from other teams were left asking, but they all played well on the day and deserved the win.  They are pictured collecting their winners shield from Dan Abraham and Phil Boyle.

There was a longest drive competition on the 9th hole which was won by Jason Knowles from Foxtrot Racing who was congratulated by Dan Abraham.

The nearest the pin competition took place on the 12th hole and was won by the first shot played on the hole.

This was struck by Phil Boyle from BG Racing who won the same prize last year and who was under warning from his wife not to bring back any more trophies, hence his expression in the presentation photo!
